BEHAVIORAL HEALTH

WAYS TO DE-STRESS

Studies show that the range of 10-50 minutes in natural spaces was the most effective to improve mood, focus and physiological markers like blood pressure and heart rate. Getting some sun is good as it feeds your body with vitamins and boosts your serotonin levels.

Get outside

Exercise

Getting active isn’t just good for physical health; it’s good for mental health!

If your child is feeling bored, tired, hyperactive, sad, angry or nervous, getting out and getting active can help them even out their emotions.

A journal is a place for children and teens to write about their thoughts and feelings and record daily activities. It can help them relieve stress, learn more about themselves, process strong emotions and solve problems. Journaling can be helpful when someone is upset, scared or angry, and or when they are excited about something – there’s no wrong way to do it!

SELF ESTEEM ACTIVITIES AND RESOURCES

Self-esteem is liking yourself, feeling worthwhile, believing in yourself and knowing what you do well. Self-esteem gives children confidence to: try new things and try again when things don't go as planned. Do things that they might not enjoy or normally be good at. Here are a few kid friendly self esteem activities to try at home.

Work with the child to design affirmations. Write the positive statements down such as what they love about themselves and their goals in a journal or separately on cards and stick them to a whiteboard, fridge door, mirror, or wall

Encourage the child to regularly revisit the affirmations daily!

DESIGN AFFIRMATIONS

WRITE A LOVE LETTER TO YOURSELF

The output is a set of statements, each beginning with “I am…” that contains the child’s positive qualities, how they benefit themselves and others, and how to foster them going forward.
