VISION

To be the leader in the treatment and prevention of pediatric obesity

MISSION

Using a Holistic approach to Obesity Prevention and Education, we aim to decrease the prevalence of pediatric obesity in the greater Richmond region with treatment plans that are executed with compassion and utilize a proven three pronged approach that:

  1. Starts with an in depth examination of the belief systems and behaviors that contribute to obesity

  2. Encourages healthy food choices and provides access to nutritious foods

  3. Promotes and facilitates moderate levels of physical activity

LEADERSHIP

MEET THE FOUNDER

Jeannette Cordor

Founder & CEO of HOPE for Obesity and The Faces of HOPE of Virginia, INC

Jeannette knows the cycle of generational obesity and its heartache. Growing up in rural Mississippi, Jeannette witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of obesity and the lack of healthy food options for minorities and at-risk families. After losing her mother at just 46 years old to hypertension and other comorbidies, Jeannette told herself, Enough is enough. This doesn’t have to be my life story. Jeannette founded the non-profit The Faces of HOPE of Virginia and its partner organization, HOPE for Obesity, to help kids and families end childhood obesity.

“We treat our clients at HOPE like family. We love and respect them. Sometimes that means straight talk. The root causes of childhood obesity are multi-faceted. Our program is effective because we believe that challenges are not excuses to remain sick and die young.”

Jeannette serves on Richmond-based non-profit committees, such as:

  • American Heart Association’s Missions Committee

  • Fit For Kids Health

  • Leadership Metro RVA

  • African American Non-profit Leaders AANL

What is required of my child to participate in HOPE’s program? As a parent/caregiver, what is required of me?

We require children to attend three sessions, three times a week during the 24-week program. Full participation is required for your child to achieve success. We require parents/caregivers to ensure their children attend classes and provide educational sessions for parents and caregivers. While this may seem like a time commitment, our approach is designed so that your child has the greatest opportunity for achieving weight loss and better health.

What makes HOPE unique or different than other weight loss programs?

To put it simple: our dedication to our clients and their families. We are committed to your success. We also provide a holistic approach to weight loss by addressing the multiple factors that influence childhood obesity.

Why is it so difficult for my child to lose weight?

There are many factors that impact childhood obesity. If it were as easy as “just saying eat less, move more” to certain foods or “just exercising,” we’d all be in shape! Our multi-targeted approach addresses the root causes of childhood obesity.

We have tried everything to help our child to lose weight. Should we give up hope?

Absolutely not! Give us an opportunity to support you today!
